The first masterclass cycle is born in Palermo, which includes four courses dedicated to the knowledge of the entire range of ancient music, with particular attention to the eighteenth-century repertoire for this first edition. The project is realized thanks to the intuition of the flutist and conductor Roberta Faja, in collaboration with the Friends of the Sicilian Museums Association and supported by Don Massimiliano Turturici of the parish community of San Giuseppe Cafasso. In addition, the event that takes the name of Sicilian Baroque Workshop aims, through training and study, to offer a new training and growth offer for the career of every musician who makes exercise and musical improvement their mission. The initiative, immediately married by the Arturo Toscanini Conservatory of Ribera (AG), was supported with the allocation of various scholarships for its students thanks to the farsighted Director Mariangela Longo who, for years, has activated courses for elements of ancient music such as the harpsichord and the traversiere.
The objectives of this project are manifold. The first is to bring together the initiatives and lessons in an area such as that of the Albergheria, where there is a large concentration of monuments of great historical and artistic importance, and the intention is to bring a district closer to music. The combination of monuments of the city, such as places of culture, art, history, faith and meeting, with music is the founding spirit of the initiative, in which the students and listeners are to be immersed, not only in the study. of music, but to bring to life impressions linked to the beauty of musical pieces and places that vibrate with the sounds of a specific historical period: the eighteenth century. In fact, evocative places of high artistic interest such as the Oratory of San Mercurio, the Church of Santa Maria dell’Itria known as della Pinta and San Giuseppe Cafasso will be the scene. To the deepening of musical knowledge through individual lessons with expert masters of national and international fame, there are also ensemble rehearsals assisted with the Cordes et Vent orchestra, in order to expand and improve one's knowledge.
In this first cycle of masters, which has baroque music as its theme, the "bel canto" course held by Maestro Antonio Giovanni, harpsichord with Maestro Basilio Timpanaro, Traversiere with Maestro Ester Prestia and a course of chamber music for string instruments held by Maestro Martina De Sensi.
The purpose of the master class is to help, provide and expand the musical technical skills of young or already established musicians, thanks to Masters as well as industry experts.
The lessons, an integral part of the students' training course, will also be open to the public of interested Auditors. The first lessons will be held from 20 to 24 July 2021, with double schedules, the individual lessons from 9:00 to 13:30 and from 15:00 to 17:00, while the orchestra rehearsals from 17:30 to 20:30.
Access to lectures and rehearsals for the public and for fans as "listeners" is possible by booking at masterclass@amicimuseisiciliani.it no later than 21 June 2021 at 2.00 pm. The classes, for reasons related to the Covid-19 emergency, are made up of a maximum of 15 people for the musicians.
In order to make it as easy as possible for students to resume teaching after the pandemic, we have provided a 10% discount on attendance fees for all students who certify their enrollment at a conservatory or music school.
This first cycle of master classes aims to be an initiative that can launch a series of national and international events that will see the city of Palermo affected by an ever-growing musical ferment.
In addition, the Sicilian Baroque Workshop project includes two concerts, one on 23 July at 19:00 at San Giuseppe Cafasso, for social purposes. As a fundraiser will be made in which the proceeds will be used for the restoration of two pictorial works recently returned to the parish territory of San Giuseppe Cafasso; the second on July 24th at 19:00 in a particularly evocative place that will be revealed later.

#esplorailMuseo is the program of art appointments conceived by the Education Department of the Civic Museum, curated by Martina Scribani, under the supervision of Stefania Cordone. It starts on 10 February with the first of a calendar of events organized by the Museum to accompany the little ones to discover the works of the permanent collection of ancient, modern and contemporary art.
At a time when museums are still closed to the public, the Civic Museum has created a series of remote activities dedicated to children. #explorailMuseo consists of an in-depth kit and two coloring drawings: the portrait of the artist and the drawing of the work. A way to entertain the little ones by involving them and encouraging creativity through knowledge of the collections housed in the Civic Museum.
Entering the Museum at a distance is the goal of the project that will invite children to send their drawings, participating in a contest for the assignment of various prizes: among them a visit to discover the history and heritage of the Museum accompanied by a guide, even with your family.
The first artist to open the educational program is Ignazio Moncada with the work La Maga Circe from 2002, donated to the museum's collection in 2018 on the initiative of Ruggero Moncada, son of the artist. Moncada's work was chosen because the interweaving of shapes and colors of the Sicilian artist's canvas allows children to interpret the myth of the sorceress linked to Ulysses in their own way, using bright colors and freely experimenting with new color combinations.
